Can manufacturers back up their kit's green credentials and persuade dealers that energy efficiency is the way to go ... Catering Insight investigates.

Even though being green is trumpeted by catering equipment manufacturers and end users ultimately it is often cost that determines whether an appliance is included in a commercial kitchen specification. So how can manufacturers convince dealers that green is also good for business?

At DC Warewashing & Icemaking Systems, director Bob Wood believes: "When purchasing warewashing equipment, the focus is firmly on ease of use, reliability, energy consumption and high quality wash results from the smallest possible footprint."

The manufacturer feels it offers energy efficient features such as its DC PD/PG50 Glasswasher and Dishwasher utilising a 12 litre wash tank compared to the traditional 30 litre models as well as its Standard range undercounter glasswasher models all having a new wash pump assembly, which is said to reduce energy consumption while increasing wash pressure.

"At DC we try to minimise the conflict between environmental credentials and cost by deploying energy saving features across the ranges, in order to facilitate a win-win for distributors by enabling them to specify value for money products with strong green features and benefits" added Wood.
