Guidance for choosing ice machines, warewashers and coolers for pubs and clubs

All the best bars have the best ice. When choosing ice machines the three key considerations are reliability, ensuring equipment is 'fit for purpose' and that it will comfortably fit the space available.

From DC Warewashing & Icemaking Systems comes 'Pebble' ice which bridges the gap between granular and cubed ice. The DC Pebble ice machine uses spray technology where water is sprayed into ice moulds at sub-zero temperatures, building layer upon layer of dense, crystalline ice.

When choosing an ice machine, check the efficiency of ice production, points out DC director Bob Wood. "Some machines will use more water and energy than others. Consider the type of machine - it may be that a self-contained or modular ice machine is required depending on ice volume and what suits your establishment best".

For warewashers, Bob Wood recommends looking for machines that offer a reduce water-cycle consumption and strike the balance between water usage and hygiene.  "Also look for innovative wash pumps and assemblies which use less power but increase pressure and insulated boilers which lower running costs and improve boiler recovery times. Choose a low-volume wash tank that saves on water, electrical and chemical consumption".
